Maverick Memorabilia
Presents the dream Maverick - June 1998........
CAR CRAFT props the Maverick and does a great job of doing just that!

- Had the Maverick not fallen victim to the gas crunch, we might have seen a Boss 302 version.  Railroaded into being an import fighter, the Maverick gets its due respect on Desmond's sketchpad.  The body easily has as much character as any Mustang, Camaro, or 'Cuda.  Always over-looked, it's the only one of our five Trans-Am picks that was never actually raced as a Trans-Am car.  Desmond tells us, "We as designers are constanly doing model changes and investigating internally.  I imagine that the Maverick body was slated to be an ultralight (about 2,500 pounds) mega-Mustang.  It seems the Maverick was stumped by the bean-counters and is the runt pony.  As car crafters, it's our duty to elevate this car to full musclecar status - something no import will ever be."  As for power, a healthy Ford SVO 5.0L crate motor or a burly 347 stroker would do the trick.  A blown 377 (stroked 351W) with a Richmond six speed would also wake up the flavor quite nicely.  We've come up with the idea.  Now, whatever your budget can swing, we just can't wait to see one built. *
